Chanel Meets Bombay for Pre-Fall 2012

First of all, I want to apologize for my lack of posting.  The last few months of my life have been beyond hectic, but I want to make a conscious effort to get back into the swing of things this month.  I know I never got around to posting all my favorite Spring 2012 looks, but I think at this point, it's best to jump into Pre-Fall, which is exactly what I am going to do, and I am going to start with Chanel.

Can Chanel throw a fashion show or what?  I adored the Bombay theme and the heavy eye liner and eye shadow that made the model's eyes pop even with the decadent head ornaments on.  I also thought the last 10 dresses or so were absolutely stunning.  Overall, I think the show had an awesome feel to it, and I loved the idea of India meeting Paris.

My only major issues are, as always, PLEASE STOP putting the models in those hideous boots.  It kills me that Lagerfeld consistently has put his models in the weird pants/boots for the last three seasons.  Also, why was Lindsey Wixson, one of the most popular and versatile models right now, put in some of the most unflattering outfits?  Compared with Daphne Groeneveld, Wixson looked almost frumpy.  However, aside from my two complaints, the show as gorgeous, decadent and definitely a work of art in and of itself.

Top six models of 2010: Number Two

My second favorite model of the year, despite all the controversy, was Crystal Renn.

Although she started the year categorized as a "plus-size" model, Crystal ended the year looking at least 20 pounds lighter.  She was scrutinized the whole year for either gaining or losing weight, and although I wish she had ended the year a beautiful size 10, she is still a beautiful girl and as long as she is healthy  that's all that matters.

I originally liked Crystal because I thought she gave curvy women everywhere a model to look up to.  Here's a girl who suffered from eating disorders, and now she is can look gorgeous as a size 10.  However, throughout the year, Crystal picked up a workout routine that included hiking and slimmed her down considerably.  Don't get me wrong, I don't not want her to be thin, I just thought she was more of a role model as a curvy woman, but either way she is still stunning.

Regardless of all the controversy, 2010 was a great year for Crystal.  She walked in her first Chanel show, scored tons of editorial spreads and took part in showing off Zac Posen's pre-fall collection.

Crystal proved she is beautiful at any weight, and I hope in 2011 she continues to be healthy regardless of her size.

Zac Posen went for form-fitting, blue leopard and a lot of black for his pre-fall collection.  He also enlisted the help of Crystal Renn and spiced up his collection photos with a lot of blue eyeshadow and disheveled hair.

This shoot is so amazing, and I love that it was shot by Terry Richardson but somehow perfectly balances between his typically vulgar and raw photos and the elegance and edginess that is Vogue Paris. And it has two of my favorite models, Abbey Lee and Crystal Renn, and Eniko Mihalik is awesome too.

So, one of the reasons that I love Crystal Renn was that she embraced her curves, and now, after looking at these photos, I have to wonder if Renn is even a plus size model anymore?

It's really a shame that she has gone back to being thin because she was a great role model for girls who weren't a size two.  I guess as long as she's lost the weight in a healthy way, she can still be a good inspiration for young girls, but I worry it sends a bad message to women that being beautiful in the fashion industry means being thin.

Crystal Renn dancing for The Block

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I adore Crystal Renn.  Not only do I think she is stunning, but I think she is super empowering to women.  She sets a great example for women because her body is not a size zero and yet she is gorgeous and a successful model.
