Sophisticated Cool at LFW: Acne, Burberry, Paul Smith and Topshop

Few cities do cool as well as London, which is why brands like Acne, Burberry, Paul Smith and Topshop thrived during LFW by showcasing collections that It girls everywhere will be after.  Acne experimented with the broad shoulder trend that swept through NYFW like wild fire, and Burberry kept it girly with ruffles and statement bow belts.  Paul Smith designed for the young hip working woman, and Topshop went less literal than usual.  Topshop branched from modern Cleopatra to street style chic with awesome boots and wearable, season-defying pieces that a girl can keep in her closet and not discard once a new trend comes around.

LFW: Unique for Topshop, Acne and Roskanda Ilincic

OK, I am finally going to commit to discussing some of the spring collections that I loved this season.  Starting with Unique for Topshop, which I picture is something Cleopatra would have been into if she was 17 and trendy.  While a lot of the collection was not necessarily my style, I appreciate the interesting reference, and I like key pieces like the Elizabeth Taylor sweatshirt and the Egyptian cat dress.  Topshop also stayed true to this season's theme of pastels, and the shades of pink on the dresses is a really pretty look.

Acne and Roskanda Ilincic also showed some pretty strong collections, and although they are incredibly different, there are still some striking similarities.  Both made use of the full skirt trend and incorporated florals into their clothing, but they did it in very different ways. Acne, which tends to be the cool, edgy girl's wardrobe went a little harder with lines and fabrics while Roskanda created a wardrobe for a very feminine and sophisticated woman.  Acne digitized its floral prints for a more modern look and Roskanda went more traditional, but regardless of the differences, I think they both showed awesome collections.

Acne Fall 2011

Finally!  My first post on London Fashion Week... I chose to start with Acne, one because alphabetically it's first, but it's also one of my favorite labels.  I really like the monochromatic suits, the extremely tall heels and the nude pink colors they used on some of their looks.  I'm not sure if I like this collection more than their spring 2011 collection, but it's definitely different which Acne does well. 

Acne and Matthew Williamson Spring 2011

It's late, I am behind on posting for fashion week and as a result, I am combining two brands that have very little in common except that I happen to like both of their spring 2011 collections.

We'll start with Acne....

I love their street wear and my favorites were definitely the navy blue outfits.  The cropped sweater layered over the long sheer shirt is to die for.

I think Acne is so awesome because their clothes are wearable, and even though I adore Matthew Williamson, I could never see myself wearing his clothing out (even though I may want to).

Acne is for the cooler, urban girl, and Matthew Williamson, as you'll see below, is for the edgy girl who has to attend a formal event.

I loove the way Williamson did the straps for these dresses, it really makes them edgy and unique.  I am obsessed with the turquoise dress, I hope someone fabulous rocks that on a red carpet.

Favorite shoes from London Fashion Week

Some of my favorite shoes from London Fashion Week.  I don't know when this platform craze started, but these Acne shoes are crazy awesome.  The Erdem shoes are my favorite (I believe Nicholas Kirkwood did them).
