Fall 2011 Couture: Christian Dior post Galliano

So I hesitated to post this immediately because I didn't want to make any rash decisions on how I feel about the couture collection post Galliano.  However, I have to agree with some of the critics who said that Dior without his lavish touch or even without a head designer with a clear vision leaves something to be desired.

While there were hints of Galliano's flare in the over-the-top makeup, bold colors and weird head accessories, I honestly felt like this was nowhere near the sophisticated collection that went down the runway for spring 2011.  There were some moments of glory in the collection that debuted on the 4th, mainly the nude-colored outfits in the middle of the show, but overall, I don't see women wanting this collection or feeling beautiful in it, which I think is something Galliano always managed to do.  That being said, I don't want to slam Bill Gaytten who was behind this collection because I don't think we have seen what he is really capable of.  What are your opinions?

John Galliano's final Dior collection

I know I haven't finished with Milan fashion shows yet, and don't worry, I am in the process of finishing my posts, but I think this is an important topic to discuss, so I am veering off a little to discuss Christian Dior's fall collection.  So as some of you may or may not know, John Galliano was fired from Dior recently for making seriously offensive anti-semitic remarks.  Although I understand Dior's reasons for firing Galliano, it's extremely sad that he won't be making any more amazingly beautiful clothes for the label.

As someone who wants to work in the fashion industry some day, the saddest things about when Alexander McQueen committed suicide was one, a loss of beautiful and unique clothing for the fashion world and another fleeting thought that I would never be able to see a McQueen show when I am older.  I feel like Galliano's dismissal is a similar case.  It's a devastating loss for Dior, although I'm sure they will find someone talented to replace him, but it's also a loss for young people like myself who some day hoped to attend a Dior couture show.  When something catastrophic happens in the fashion world, I always think how different things might be when or if I ever work for a magazine.

It's sad to say that Galliano will never walk down the runway clad in some period costume with Dior in the background.  However, I hope after rehab, he will be able to pull himself and his career together again and start making the beautiful clothes he is capable of.  However, I'll leave you with what Vogue declared the most condemned evening dresses.  It's really sad because these gorgeous clothes will probably never get the red carpet moments and the limelight they deserve.

A look into couture fitting rooms

I found an article on AnOther magazine's website and I thought it was super interesting because it showed 10 famous couture house's fitting rooms.

Here's a look into some beautifully designed spaces ranging from Chanel to Giorgio Armani.

I would say my favorites have to be Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel.

Dior Couture Spring 2011

There were some to-die-for looks in Christian Dior's spring couture show.  I noted my favorites in the photos below, but I am obsessed with the yellow dress towards the end with the black sequin details and the cowl neck dress with the gorgeous tulle bottom.

Couture tends to be a time when designers experiment, but something I noticed a lot from the shows so far is that designers played with shapes and while looking at some of these looks I asked myself who could possibly pull off some of these clothes that are feathers and lace piled on tulle.

However, that being said, Dior's collection was stunning, and I hope somebody starts rocking those circle fan-like skirts.  Also, following this post, I'm going to put up some of my favorite close-up shots of the models.  So stay tuned!

Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture

So, it's obvious that John Galiano channeled flowers for his couture line, but the plastic on the models' heads is a little much.  However, there are definitely a few gems in this collection.  EDIT: I added some new details, the collection is really gorgeous up close.
