Top six models of 2010: Number Two

My second favorite model of the year, despite all the controversy, was Crystal Renn.

Although she started the year categorized as a "plus-size" model, Crystal ended the year looking at least 20 pounds lighter.  She was scrutinized the whole year for either gaining or losing weight, and although I wish she had ended the year a beautiful size 10, she is still a beautiful girl and as long as she is healthy  that's all that matters.

I originally liked Crystal because I thought she gave curvy women everywhere a model to look up to.  Here's a girl who suffered from eating disorders, and now she is can look gorgeous as a size 10.  However, throughout the year, Crystal picked up a workout routine that included hiking and slimmed her down considerably.  Don't get me wrong, I don't not want her to be thin, I just thought she was more of a role model as a curvy woman, but either way she is still stunning.

Regardless of all the controversy, 2010 was a great year for Crystal.  She walked in her first Chanel show, scored tons of editorial spreads and took part in showing off Zac Posen's pre-fall collection.

Crystal proved she is beautiful at any weight, and I hope in 2011 she continues to be healthy regardless of her size.

Top six models of 2010: Number Three

My third favorite model of the year started as my number one, but slowly she was outdone by a newcomer and a model who caused a lot of controversy this year (try to guess who they are!)

Abbey Lee Kershaw is my third favorite model of the year for her outrageous photo shoots and her obvious lack of self consciousness when it comes to posing nude.

I also love the transformation she went through from brownish-blonde to icy blonde.  Abbey Lee has been one of my favorite models for a long time, and for that reason, she makes it to my number three spot.

She was featured in almost every Chanel related thing along with Freja Beha Erichsen.  She starred in the Mulberry campaign.  She was in the Pirelli calendar for 2010 and 2011, she's the face of the Alexander Wang campaign and she was in numerous editorial shoots and scored at least four covers.

Rock on, Abbey Lee.  I hope 2011 brings just as much success for you as 2010!

Top six models of 2010: Number Four

So, some of you might be wondering how this happened, but Ashley Smith is my fourth favorite model of 2010.  Yes, that's right, I voted her above Lara Stone.

Throughout 2010, Ashley tended to be in edgy and fun editorials.  I don't think there was one editorial that I didn't like with her in it.

While Ashley lacked the coverage that many of the other models I picked got, I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of her in 2011.  She did score a few covers and an ad campaign for Sisley by Terry Richardson.

She is definitely the Lara Stone prototype, but in some ways I think she is prettier because she has a more feminine face than Lara.  But mainly I voted her above Lara because she is so new and young, and I don't think we've seen all this 19-year-old Texan has to offer.

I am excited to see how her career unfolds in 2011.

Top six models of 2010: Number Five

My fifth favorite model of 2010 would have to be Lara Stone.

Lara was all over magazines this year or should I say her breasts were.  This year's trend seemed to shift towards racy ads and magazine covers.  The fashion world embraced curves but only on skinny models, and Lara was the front runner for the trend.

Now, some of you might argue that Lara was the first model of her kind and that now, designers are looking for the Lara Stone "look-a-likes" like Daphne Groeneveld.  While it's true that Lara did start a trend for buxom young models with gaps between their teeth and blonde hair, there is no one who can outshine Lara which is proof from her numerous covers and ad campaigns.

However, Lara is 27 years old.  She's been around the fashion scene for awhile and has been a favorite of mine for a few years.  For those reasons, she is getting placed a little lower on my list then she probably deserves.

Either way, bravo, Lara for embracing your femininity and imperfections.

Top six models of 2010: Number Six

So, I know it's a little late to start this countdown, but the idea came to me tonight as I'm home trying to stay healthy in this cold Florida weather.  For the last five days (I am counting this post as the 28th), I will post my six (I couldn't eliminate one) favorite models of 2010.  Also, try not to judge me because I clearly have a "type."

However, here's number six: breakout model Daphne Groeneveld.

Daphne was featured in the Givenchy couture show and is now the face of Givenchy's spring/summer ad campaign.

She was the face of Miu Miu along with Lindsey Wixson and was photographed for the cover of Vogue Paris's issue that Tom Ford curated, and yes, here comes the kicker, she's only 16 years old.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld in Tom Ford

Carine Roitfeld's daughter, the beautiful Julia Restoin Roitfeld, was photographed in Tom Ford's new collection for V Magazine.

Erdem Pre-Fall 2011

I love Erdem's pre-fall collection.  Once again, they managed to create beautiful dresses that play with patterns and are form fitting but still classy.  Erdem is quickly becoming one of my favorite labels.

(also the model's uninviting face actually through me off of this collection for a little, but the key is to focus away from the hardness of her face and just admire the craftmanship of the clothing.)

Carine Roitfeld announces her split from Vogue Paris

Carine Roitfeld announced today she's leaving Vogue Paris.

Sad, sad news.  Roitfeld was an amazing editor and probably the main reason Vogue Paris was so cool and cutting edge.

Burberry Pre-Fall 2010

I adore the coats Burberry has in its pre-fall collection and the final long dresses are stunning.  I love the color palette and the the silhouette of the maxi dresses are so flattering on the models.  If I had the money, I'd buy the black patterned maxi dress and wear it all the time.

William Rast for Target

The William Rast for Target comes out on Dec. 19, and I can't wait to test out the jackets and chambray shirts.

These would make great Christmas gifts for your edgy girl friends, while the prices range from $18 to $200, the collection also includes clothes for men, so it's worth looking into if you are in need of either adding or changing up your boyfriend's style!

Helmut Lang Pre-Fall 2011

Helmut Lang's pre-fall collection is to die for.  I would wear every piece in the collection and I love the hard edgy coats mixed with drapey feminine look of the dresses.

Designers dish out the sketches for Kate Middleton's big day

So, the announcements have been made, the pictures have been taken, the venue (Westminister Abbey) may or may not have been decided on, but what everyone is wondering is what is Kate Middleton going to wear?

WWD posted 30 looks designers have drawn for Kate, and they range from extravagant to bare bones.

Now, Kate has thrown fashionistas off in the past two weeks because in the photos below she opted to wear a look from last year and do her own makeup even though she probably had tons of gorgeous clothes at her disposal.  Her knack for staying true to herself is going to throw designers off a little, and God forbid, a future princess pull a Carrie Bradshaw.  I don't think the royal family is going to want "the bride to wear a dress by no one."

However, in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if Kate went ultra simple because Diana went ultra extravagant, and let's face it, no one can beat Diana's train (nor does Kate probably want to).

Out of all the designs below here's my top 5 not in any particular order:
1.  Badgley Mischka
2.  Monique Lhuillier
3.  Gucci
4.  J. Crew
5.  Tory Burch

(If I thought Kate would be going for opulence, I'd pick Valentino hands down, and Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu's designs are stunning in a not over the top way as well)

Regardless, I'm sure Kate will make the right decision and will look beautiful (especially in any one of these designs) on her wedding day.

What designs make your top 5??

Ghost - NAAG

Chanel Pre-Fall Collection

Leave it to Chanel to pull out all the stops for a pre-fall collection.

I am obsessed with the purple dress in the pictures below.  It is so gorgeous, and I hope somebody rocks it on the red carpet because it really deserves a moment.

So, I don't know about you guys but I know I have trouble rocking the lace and sheer trend sometimes.  I found this article on NAAG though, and it really helped me out.

Obsessed: Elle Fanning

First off, I adore Elle Fanning, and I can't wait to see her in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere."

Now, that being said, I have to admit I am a little jealous that this 12-year-old gets to walk red carpets in Valentino and Marchesa and wear Chanel in photoshoots for Interview magazine.

However, Fanning is adorable, and I am sure her role in "Somewhere" will live up to all the expectations I have.  Here's a few photos of her working the red carpet scene for her new movie.

Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2011

Zac Posen went for form-fitting, blue leopard and a lot of black for his pre-fall collection.  He also enlisted the help of Crystal Renn and spiced up his collection photos with a lot of blue eyeshadow and disheveled hair.

Holiday Gift Guide

Here's part one of my gift guide, I think this could work for an edgy fashionista or a cute bookworm.  Check it out!

Lily Donaldson for Harper's Bazaar

Lily Donaldson shows off spring's new looks in an editorial for Harper's Bazaar U.S.

I actually really like this shoot because typically when I think of Harper's Bazaar, I think of sort of reserved and classic, and I like that they enlisted Terry Richardson to showcase spring's look in a bright, fresh and modern way.

What do you think?

Fashionista's 10 Most Stylish Stars Under 20

Here's Fashionista.com's 10 Most Stylish Stars Under 20 list, and first off, I love that these girls are so young and are trendsetters, but can I just say that is also breaks my heart that a 13-year-old girl gets to wear Proenza Schouler?

My favorites would definitely have to be Emma Watson, Willow Smith, Suri Cruise and maybe Jane Aldridge or Karlie Kloss.

What do you think?

Rag and Bone Pre-Fall 2011

Rag and Bone Pre-Fall 2011:
I think I like their pre-fall collection more than I liked their Spring 2011.

One of the things I love (although Rag and Bone's collections are almost wearable) about pre-fall collections is that they are often the most wearable things designers present all year.

I would wear all of these outfits, and I especially love the long black skirt in the picture below and the second to last outfit.

What do you think?

First Video for Alexander McQueen's McQ Collection

I adore this video of Charlotte Benson for the new Alexander McQueen McQ collection.  The new line will be 25 percent cheaper than the previous collections, but don't get too excited, that doesn't mean it will be inexpensive.
